Ride for Refugees rider Steve Weldon

Steve Weldon

I’m 66 years old and have been married to the same awesome woman for 43 years. We have 2 great daughters.

My enjoyment for cycling began at the age of 17 when I made my first cross country trip the Summer of 1975 with 30 other cyclists from Anderson, Indiana to Olympia, Washington. I rode a stock Schwinn Le Tour bicycle without a helmet or gloves wearing tennis shoes, t-shirts, and cut off jean shorts. The next Summer 4 of us made another trip from Portland, Oregon to Cincinnati, Ohio. I’ve been riding to one degree or another ever since.

I enjoy the mountains and have been privileged to trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp in Nepal on two occasions, in the Andes mountains of Peru, and the great Colorado Rockies. I have also been able to step foot in 25 fascinating countries including such places as Belize, Burkina Faso, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Ghana, India, Israel, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania.

I like cheeseburgers and ice cream which is why it’s important I keep riding. My claim to fame is I saw and heard Led Zeppelin twice, once in Detroit and also in Indianapolis.

I am a Follower of Jesus who is continually amazed how God our Father can love someone like me and, in fact, He even likes me! I am also the Founding Pastor of Hope Community Church in Andover, Kansas where I still serve and have for over 36 years. (welcome2hope.org) I count it a great privilege to be able represent Jesus through Ride 4 Refugees as we raise fund to help those who are in such desperate need of God’s love and help, refugees.
